Animal Services

Our mission is to save the lives of abandoned animals in our care, protect animals from cruelty, reunite lost pets with their owners, protect people and pets in our community from health-related issues and ensure the public's safety.

If you are 18 years of age or older, you can adopt a pet from our Pet Adoption and Protection Center.

All pets adopted from Miami-Dade Animal Services undergo basic vetting and include sterilization, vaccinations and microchip.

Pet Adoption
Spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs are available for a low cost.

Low-cost spay or neuter services are offered to Miami-Dade County residents for cats and dogs.

If you find a stray pet, bring it to our shelter to be reunited with its owner.

If you've lost your pet or found someone else's file a report to Miami-Dade Animal Services as soon as possible.

Lost & Found Pets
ASD offers residents low-cost pet care packages which include vaccinations, micro-chips and spay/neuter surgeries.

Low-cost vaccinations are available for your dogs and cats at the Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center.

Licenses & Tags

You can buy or renew a dog license at your local veterinarian’s office, at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center or at any one of the 311 Service Centers. Dog Licenses are required for all dogs over four months of age.

Active members of a national, state, or local breeder organization that houses or breeds dogs or cats in or on the property of a private residence must apply for a Hobby Breeder License.

You can buy a license for your cat at the Pet Adoption and Protection Center or at any of the 311 Service Centers.

You can purchase bulk orders of one-year or three-year tags.

A pet care center license for commercial grooming of animals (dogs, cats, etc.) must be obtained from Animal Services in order to operate a pet grooming business in Miami-Dade County.

Pet Dealer Licenses are issued for anyone who sells more than two litters or 20 dogs or cats per year, whichever is greater.

Kennel licenses are issued by Miami-Dade Animal Services.

An owner whose dog has been declared dangerous must register the dog with Animal Services within 14 days of that declaration.

Registry contains information on persons convicted with felony and misdemeanor animal abuse and cruelty offenses. It is for public access and awareness.

Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services) takes in about 30,000 dogs and cats each year, regardless of age, breed, medical condition, or temperament. The stray and abandoned animals in our care receive high-quality veterinary care. Animal Services first achieved their lifesaving status in 2015.

Regulations

Animal cruelty is defined as depriving an animal of food, water, shelter or veterinary care.

License tags are required for all dogs. Tags must be renewed one year from the last date of purchase. It's the law. Click title to read the regulation.

When a dog goes off private property, it must be leashed at all times. Dogs are not permitted to roam free off private property.

Any animal which causes frequent, habitual or long continued noise which is plainly audible at a distance of 100 feet at any time of the day.

Leaving a pet in a car is considered animal cruelty.
